I just love this story of the Macintosh Graphing Calculator. It was part of a project that got cancelled, but its authors continued to sneak into Apple to work on it for free, and eventually got it shipped with MacOS. This is an extreme and wonderful illustration of the dedication a good engineer can have to an important project. I just wish it was available for Windows!
